Not to be confused with the East Coast indie label of (almost) the same name, Gern Blanston was a metallic noise rock trio from Portland, OR. Taking their name from an obscure Steve Martin reference (about his alleged real name growing up), the band featured guitarist/vocalist Jeff Blanston, his sister Jillian Wyznick, and drummer Dean Miles. In 1993, they issued a split 7" single with Portland emo band Thirty Ought Six on the Cavity Search label. Their only full-length album, a self-titled effort, arrived in 1996, and the group disbanded by the end of that year. Blanston and Miles went on to play in the local stoner rock jam band the Owners, and Miles also gigged with several other local outfits.
