Zeta

Zeta is a collective art piece (primarily known for their musical aspect), that honors the ideals of resistance against the unjust treatment of living beings and cultural/racial prejudices. Their expression can be perceived audibly, visually, gastronomically, and poetically through the many different mediums that they choose to express themselves (music, film, design, cuisine, etc).

The legend of Zeta started in 2003 in a little town on the coast of the Caribbean Sea called Lecheria. Known as the smallest municipal function in Venezuela - the city is only 7 square miles and houses 79 thousand inhabitants. Hailed as “la ciudad progresista” or - “the progressive city”; Lecheria is encircled on the water by the islands of Mochima national park and hugged on land by Puerto La Cruz and Barcelona, maintaining an ever present flow of multicultural traffic.

Previously known as San Miguel De Neveri- Lecheria was home of the cumanagoto tribe- which was one of the most prominent indigenous family who resisted and fought the colonization by Spain.

Although the concept of the piece has been inspired by the history and diversity of it's place of origin, their artwork has been welcomed by different independent art communities of many different regions of “Nuestra America” (term used to describe South and Central America by José Martí as the title of an essay published in January 1st of 1891 in the New York Revista Ilustrada), and they are currently residing in South Florida, US.

Sonically the group is defined by its strong emphasis on dense polyrhythmic percussion that sway from profoundly authentic Afro-Caribbean to the most crude and raw punk with atmospheric elements that are drawn from 70’s era Psychedelia and post-rock to form a visceral, intense and unique listening experience.

Zeta is also known for touring relentlessly - and due to their nomadic nature they foster and adopt artistic communities from all over the globe.

Their live configuration revolves around the main percussion- the drum set. With auxiliary percussion encircling the drum kit- played by all of the members of the collective all while producing the harmony and melodies with guitars, bass, keyboards and woodwinds. Basically it’s a band comprised of 6 percussionists that intermittently play other instruments.

Mochima means “land of many waters” in cumanatogo dialect- and this is the name of Zeta’s latest record. Officially released on November 3rd, 2019. A profound artistic statement and a culmination of all of their previous musical endeavors. Two music videos have come about as a result of this record- in collaboration with fellow Venezuelan artist and director Garabatoarte. Inspired by the singles of the record- (Venezziola & Los Altos De Santa Fe). In the Zeta universe there are 6 LP records, 1 double album and various splits and EPs. As well as various live sessions- notably Audiotree, Little Elephant, Light and Noise and various others.
